Our Story

It started with coffee-stained sketches and a stubborn belief that buildings could do better

How We Got Here

Back in 2012, three architects walked out of a stuffy corporate firm with nothing but laptops, some wild ideas, and way too much optimism. We'd spent years watching buildings go up that looked great in magazines but sucked at actually being sustainable. That didn't sit right with us.

Started in a cramped Queen West loft - yeah, one of those "charming" spaces with exposed brick that was freezing in winter. Maybe that's what pushed us to figure out better climate solutions, who knows? Our first project was a tiny residential renovation where the client gave us full creative control. That trust changed everything.

Fast forward through countless all-nighters, failed pitches, and some genuinely beautiful wins - we've grown into something we're actually proud of. Not because we're the biggest, but 'cause every project still gets that same obsessive attention we gave that first renovation.

The Journey

Milestones that shaped who we are

2012

The Beginning

Three friends, one crazy idea. Launched Nexus Quinthorix in a 600 sq ft loft with more ambition than furniture. First client took a chance on us for a residential reno in Leslieville.

Early days

2014

Breaking Ground

Landed our first commercial project - a net-zero coffee roastery in Liberty Village. It was terrifying and exhilarating. Also hired our first two team members who're still with us today.

Recognition Hits

Won the Ontario Architecture Award for that mixed-use development in Parkdale. Suddenly people were returning our calls. Moved into actual office space with real desks and everything.

2019

Going Bigger

Completed the Harbourfront cultural center - our largest project yet. Team grew to 15 passionate weirdos who actually care about passive solar orientation at parties. Launched our urban planning division.

Sustainability Focus

Achieved LEED Platinum on three consecutive projects. Started consulting other firms on sustainable design. Yeah, we became those annoying people who talk about thermal mass at dinner parties.

Today & Tomorrow

22 projects running simultaneously, team of 28, and we're still figuring things out daily. Working on Toronto's first carbon-negative residential tower. Still get excited about every new project like it's 2012 all over again.

The humans behind the blueprints

Sarah Chen
Sarah Chen

Co-Founder & Lead Architect

The perfectionist who won't let a project go until every detail sings. Spent 8 years at big firms before deciding she'd rather build things that matter. Obsessed with daylighting and probably knows more about window-to-wall ratios than anyone should.

Marcus Thompson
Marcus Thompson

Co-Founder & Design Director

The dreamer who sketches on napkins and somehow those napkins become buildings. Has an uncanny ability to see spaces that don't exist yet. Also makes terrible coffee but we love him anyway. His residential designs have been featured in way too many magazines.

David Park
David Park

Co-Founder & Technical Director

The problem-solver who figures out how to actually build the crazy stuff we design. Former structural engineer who switched to architecture because he wanted to see the whole picture. Keeps us honest about what's possible - and then usually finds a way to make the impossible work.

Elena Rodriguez

Senior Architect

Joined us in 2014 and hasn't looked back. Specializes in adaptive reuse - she sees potential in old buildings that most people want to demolish. Her portfolio of heritage renovations is stunning. Also runs our sustainability consulting division and doesn't take shortcuts.

Urban Planning Lead

Thinks in neighborhoods, not just buildings. Came from city planning to help us understand how our projects fit into the bigger urban fabric. Gets genuinely excited about transit connections and walkability scores. His master plans actually make sense for real people.

Interior Architecture Director

Makes sure our buildings feel as good as they look. Interior spaces are her playground - she understands how people actually move through and use spaces. Has an eye for materials that'll surprise you in the best way. Also keeps a collection of fabric samples that's borderline obsessive.

9 Years Experience NCIDQ Certified

Plus 22 More Talented Folks

We've got project managers, junior architects, interns who ask questions that make us rethink everything, BIM specialists, sustainability consultants, and admin staff who keep this chaos running smoothly. Everyone here genuinely cares - it's kind of our unofficial hiring criteria.

How We Actually Work

No corporate nonsense here. We start every project by listening - really listening - to what you need. Then we push back when we think there's a better way. That's the deal.

Our studio's got this weird energy where everyone's working on something different but somehow it all connects. Young architects bounce ideas off veterans who've seen it all. We argue about details because we care, not because we're difficult.

Sustainability isn't a checkbox for us - it's baked into everything from day one. If a design can't justify its environmental impact, it doesn't leave the studio. Simple as that.
